Rool from the original Donkey Kong Country. With the Gangplank Galleon theme music, and the fake "Ending Kredits", it's an awesome end to an awesome game. The former is fought during a very intense minecart pursuit where his minions have to be negotiated first in Whack-a-Mole style. Mangoruby opts for a more cerebral battle in a battlefield as colorful as the boss himself (who, mind you, becomes more pervasive and vicious the more times you hit him). Colonel Pluck, a chicken who is also a Mad Scientist and fights you in its personal mecha. The fight has two stages, the latter of which has Dr. The fact that Pluck's theme, Feather Fiend, seems to be channelling Dr. Neo Cortex only enhances the fun of this fight. After a grueling way to him, he absorbs the other Tiki bosses to make hands and fights you WITHOUT hypnotizing anyone. Donkey Kong (Sr., aka Cranky Kong) himself beat all of these guys out by at least a year in Donkey Kong '94.Īnd how do you finish him after struggling to land that last hit? DK punches the freaking Moon on his base, after Tong sends him out of the planet! His theme is awesome, and he has bluffs that can outsmart a careless player. So you've gone through almost 100 levels of Lock and Key Puzzles, barrel throwing, and Donkey Kong Jr.

and finally cornered him at the top of a tower. And you beat him, causing him to fall off. From offscreen, DK hits the ground with enough force to alter the playfield, then you see a bunch of mushrooms flying all over the place. Next thing you know, Donkey Kong is as big as the big ape that inspired him! And the music is pure joy (though some would argue that the previous fight's music has it beat). ALL SIX bosses in Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze are really fun to fight, have creative designs, and have awesome music accompanying them.Special mention goes to Skowl, which has a surprising variety of attacks to be only the second boss, and its music has been favorably compared to that of Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII.Usually when playing a game, there's secrets, especially in platformers. Hidden blocks, extra lives, they're everywhere. #DONKEY KONG COUNTRY TROPICAL FREEZE BOSSES FREE#īut in Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze? They're dense, yo.The only shame is that since the game never got distributed in North America, you can hardly find any remixes at all. This theme starts at the same time the player is introduced to the "holy level". A big help in preventing boredom when grinding.ĭecision Bell. Also happens at certain, seemingly-random points in the game, which invariably gets you pumped for whatever pops up in the next screen. Speaking of which, here is one of the many Boss themes. When you step off the boat and walk into Jad.

Seriously, every track from that game is memorable. I remember I would do one of the character's intros, then stop when the opening credits ended, then do it all over again for another character, just to hear Meridian Child again. And I thought I was the only one who played this. and then, inexplicably, breaks down to a wistful and dreamy second half. In the space of three minutes, this track moves from tribal drums to echoing synths to walking bass to jazzy piano and brass. Was this the level where the snowstorm would steadily move from the background to the foreground? Brilliant pairing of music to playing experience there.Īnd of course, Island Swing! Perfect music for the first level as you blast out of your treetop cabin in the morning and settle in a cave in the evening. There's more progression and nuance in this than in your average indie band. I'm patiently waiting for Team Teamwork to splice this with some gangster rap. Seems like a really odd track in retrospect (is that some sort of Mortal Kombat thing in the bridge?), but of course, it works. Sit back, put on some headphones, and chill out to some good memories.įunky Fugue. As Bramble Blast was to DKC2, this one is to DKC. Another surprisingly scary track.Īquatic Ambiance. Who else, when they first heard this song, think "aw, pirates, cool", then promptly shat bricks once it changed into an ominous, final boss epic?įear Factory.

Not to mention a memorable one: who doesn't remember DK crashing down on Cranky with the ghetto blaster? Establishes the game's lootbag stle of music from the get-go. For an awesome game, a suitable introduction. Composed by David Wise, Eveline Fischer, and Robin Beanland. I dunno, the first one had some pretty good tunes as well.
